TRACES OF HIGH SEISMIC ACTIVITY IN THE UPPERMOST SEDIMENTS OF LAKE BAIKAL, SIBERIA

چکیده
Sedimentation in Lake Baikal is significantly affected by continuous seismic activity the Rift Zone. Our study shows that historical earthquakes, as well recent events, considerably influenced sedimentation this deep tectonic basin. Here we present some of results extensive international research activities during period 1996–2019. To identify traces events uppermost sediments (<1.5 m), short cores were recovered from many coring stations throughout entire lake. Based on lithological descriptions, measurements magnetic susceptibility, and concentration inorganic organic components, identified earthquake indicators sediment cores. Impacts earthquakes traced within South (near Sharyzhalgai Station 106-km Circum-Baikal railway, hereafter CBR) Proval Bay Selenga River delta).

Early diagenetic processes generate iron and manganese oxide layers in the sediments of Lake Baikal, Siberia.
Distinct layers of iron(III) and manganese(IV) (Fe/Mn) oxides are found buried within the reducing part of the sediments in Lake Baikal and cause considerable complexity and steep vertical gradients with respect to the redox sequence. For the on-site investigation of the responsible biogeochemical processes, we applied filter tube samplers for the extraction of sediment porewater combined with ...

heteropoly acids (hpa) and their salts have advantages as catalysts which make them both economically and environmentally attractive, strong br?nsted acidity, exhibiting fast reversible multi-electron redox transformations under rather mild conditions, very high solubility in polar solvents, fairly high thermal stability in the solid states, and efficient oxidizing ability, so that they are imp...

L Baikal in southeastern Siberia, the “Sacred Sea,” incites strong emotions and action in Russia. In March 2006, 5000 people in Irkutsk, Russia, protested the proposed construction of an oil pipeline scheduled to pass within 800 meters (m) of Lake Baikal’s shoreline, and, within days, President Putin announced the pipeline would be rerouted outside the lake’s watershed (Cullison 2007). In July ...
متن کاملPalynological study of Lake Kotokel’ bottom sediments (Lake Baikal region)
Pollen and AMSC analyses of bottom sediments from the upper nine meters of the Lake Kotokel’ section were carried out. The regional climate and landscape dynamics during the Late Glacial and Holocene has been reconstructed with an average time resolution of ~120 years. It is shown that the climatic conditions in the Kotokel’ basin during Termination I (~15.5–11 ka) were characterized by short d...
متن کاملthe impact of musical texts on the text recall of young learners of english in isfahan junior high schools
abstract although music possesses some kind of power and using it has been welcome by many students in language classrooms, it seems that they take a non-serious image of the lesson while listening to songs and they may think that it is a matter of fun. the main objective of the present study was to investigate whether learning a foreign language through musical texts (songs) can have an impac...
